近日，一些被包装成“新闻爆料”的造谣短视频在网络上造成恶劣影响。例如，一则标题为“网传济南女生被欺凌”的短视频一度在网络上引发关注，后经查证当地并未发生这类事件。
一位艺人经纪人告诉半月谈记者一套“种瓜”流程——豆瓣“养蛊”（即刻意放出似是而非的假消息吊起网民胃口），再借微博、今日头条等平台发酵，然后在知乎、B站等输出讨论观点。连环套路下，公众注意力的流量密码就被“拿捏”了。
半月谈记者在一些平台“吃瓜”群组发现，有人公然声明：“欢迎爆料，瓜的真伪请自行判断，放瓜、搬瓜都会保护。”一些平台的“营销号矩阵”却多以此真伪难辨的“瓜”为线索来源，实现裂变式传播。更有甚者，曾有一些群组因常有“劲爆瓜”且仅组员可见，组员账号转手价炒至数百上千元。
不仅如此，伴随“吃瓜”文化兴盛，娱乐圈这块“瓜田”沃土开始供不应求，网民将八卦的对象泛化至网红甚至是素人的个人隐私。
